Arlington Row

We visited these 17th century cottages in Bibury that used to house the weavers that made cloth for fulling. Each had a loom in the upper story of their cottage. They are now private residences that are rented from the heritage society. They used to be a main hall used for storing wool, but converted into weaving studios when the cloth was in high demand. Arlington cloth is still sold. Across the road is Rack Isle, so named because the woven cloth was hung to dry. William Morris called this village the 'prettiest village in England'.
