Paint It Up!

Krista and I have been busy painting away since the weather has been so wonderful. We're not dripping with sweat, not slowly moving our paint brushes very fast lest we sweat even more. We can actually move large pieces of furniture without rivulets running down our backs. What a difference a week makes!

I finished this 'piano' desk last week, after it sat in the barn for nearly a year. It had a broken leg and I just pushed it to the back in the 'I'll get to this when I'm done painting all the fun stuff that doesn't need fixing first' pile.

But it was finally time to pull this beauty out and give it some love. It turned out beautiful! It opens like a piano and makes a little bookshelf on top. Little cubbies hide on the inside. It has one long drawer in front and awesome detailing.

It's going to Sweet Clover Barn for their August 16, 17, 18 sale.

Another cabinet that was in that same pile. I picked this up last October (!) and kept telling it that someday it would lovely and useful. For some reason, the previous owners had glued thin wood to the fronts and side with thick black tar-like glue. I worked on this for hours and hours. But once you get into it, it's hard to stop.

I painted this interior Duck Egg blue.

Available at Krista's barn in Comus.....$225.

Original handles
A great idea for those dated end tables.... pet beds! We have at three of these so will be making a few more. We took the doors off to make an entrance for your sweet little pup or kitty. It could handle about a 40 pound dog. Cute and cozy! $125

Kirsta finished a few children's pieces. We're trying a new blue. It's best to try on the smaller pieces first.

Cute child's side table

With marching scotties. We have a little stool to match too.
We're working int he barn all this week, so look for more furniture postings soon!

Beachin' It

We joined Krista down on the Outer Banks for a few days of beach time. I had a show on Saturday, came home unpacked and repacked the car and off to the seaside we went on Sunday.

We hadn't been to Krista's beach house before and were thrilled that it was right on the beach. This is the back of the house.

The welcoming front of the 'Beach Castle'. There were 8 people and 6 dogs. Luckily all the dogs got along great. They're all big dogs so that's a heap a lot of dog around.

Just four of the dogs, laying around after a hard day at the beach.

 Judy, Abby, Benny and Balou

 Forrest enjoying the back deck.

 Casey and Forrest out kayaking.

Casey has his own life jacket and loves wearing it. He stayed very calm in the waves, not upsetting the balance at all.

Our other 2 dogs, Trapper and Balou with Houston.

Trapper is the 'swimmingest' dog. This was Trapper's first time to the ocean and it took him about a bit of time to get used to those waves coming at him, but he figured it out and he'd be out there for 30 minutes at a time, paddling the entire time.

Casey, Forrest and Michele

The Ranger packed for the beach.

This is the part of the Outer Banks where one has to drive on the beach to get to the houses. So there are trucks and SUV's driving back and forth (although not very often). There are also wild horses that live nearby, so trucks have to be wary of the horses.

This horse is near the walkway to Krista's house. A pair came right up under the deck last night and were stomping right outside the bedroom window. While on the beach, we witnessed two stallions rearing up and fighting, vying for dominance. One was chased away, running right past us which really excited the dogs.

Casey loved jumping off this dock.

We drove through the bay side where there is thick vegetation.

Live oak trees grow in abundance and are great for climbing.

and the ever colorful, Krista and Dalis

No dying of fiber, no painting of furniture, just reading, knitting, enjoying great company and awesome food. Total relaxation at the ocean's edge. Just what we needed. Good night moon!

Finished! Lots of Furniture.

We've had some gorgeous days this summer. Perfect for finishing up a few pieces of our vast supply of furniture. This is the view from Krista's barn where we refinish the big pieces.

The aisle way used to look like this. Cramped and hard to move around.

But Krista moved the boat out and a huge piece of farm equipment, rearranged some things and now we have a dreamy workspace any DIYer would love to have.

I had a knee surgery the week before and couldn't wait to get back to painting so set myself up with my leg elevated (as the doctor instructed) and got to work.

This great little desk, painted a robin's egg bluish/green...$175

or this useful 7-drawer desk, perfect for an entryway for mitts, keys, whatever or of course in an office...$195

oops! one handle is upside down!

This awesome dresser is painted the same robin's egg blue although it looks more grey in the photo.

We've changed the top knobs to be the same ceramic white as the others.

available for $325

Got this cute little dresser to Ginger & Spice already

and we took this u.g.l.y. piece....

and transformed it into a pet bed! As long as your pet is 30lbs or less.

So comfy, cozy...$125

Another robin's egg blue piece. We're on a roll!

$125

Beautiful, elegant scalloped table...$125

I love these small children's hutches. This would make the perfect changing or in the kitchen for extra storage or maybe the bathroom for towels and bathroomy things.

We're working in the barn all this week, so more to come!
