Chirpy Stuff

First of all….I have a new name and a new look to my blog site!!!! It was long overdue for a makeover and my son, Garrett, helped me out with it. He's a designer/coder/awesome dude and is a whiz at this. Thanks G!!!!
Now that the studio tours are over, I can go back to doing fun things with furniture. Krista and I are now down to just one venue, The Blue Hearth in Poolesville. But etsy and craigslist are bringing some buyers so I'm posting nearly everything we do on those sites. We have this awesome black dresser for sale, adorned with big glass knobs. It has a nice mirror and would be perfect in a bedroom (duh!), foyer, nursery (use as a changing table…genius!) or even in a kitchen for extra storage.

I can't believe this beautiful dresser has not sold yet. It's painted Duck Egg Blue and has four white ceramic knobs and two original brass knobs.

Such nice details

This is a 'waterfall' style art deco desk/vanity.

and this is what we might do to it.

Really nice vintage desk with lots of storage.

Another project awaiting our magic touch.

some nice old cabinet doors. These are nice because they aren't too big.

We painted three little tables bright red for the holidays. So cheery (cherry!)

Love this scalloped table

This is a flip table….

flips down for easy storage

elegant marble topped end table, painted duck egg blue

black and grey side table

the knob is gorgeous!!

Sometimes we leave the top alone, especially when it has such nice wood.

We got a pair of these little tables up in Vermont when we were there this past summer. One is sold.

Beautiful coffee table with 6 swoony legs. Never have seen one like this before.

It has a perfectly cut glass top (not pictured) so the top stays nice.

Child's end table

We also have a stool to match. Don't you just love the little Scotties?

This is such a cute little wardrobe, dresser, cabinet. I think it would be a great crafter's cabinet. How about a sewing cabinet with fabric piled up in the door section and sewing supplies in the drawers on the left? The possibilities are endless!
If you are interested in anything you see, let me know and I'll give you the dimensions and price. Nothing is expensive and everything is awesome!

Holiday House Tour, Part 1

I've enjoyed everyone's house tours that I've been viewing on blogs lately. They really got me fired up to decorate.

My old chicken feeder makes a cute holiday vignette. My love of old trucks comes out in my collection of pickups.

My favorite little Christmas tree…cut metal with flattened vintage soda caps welded onto it for ornaments. I was given the 'Bright Globe' grate years ago and I love it! I've started a collection of these old tin oil cans. Besides being cute and useful, I like the sound they make when you make the oil come out!

My vintage snowman came together for a little fun trio.

Our bedroom got a little winter makeover. I was set on finding flannel plaid sheets that looked old. Target came through with flying colors (but I hope my credit card info doesn't get stolen!).

And this pillow (I am such a pillow hoarder!) was perfect.

From spring/summer to…..

…winter happiness. Crawling into heated flannel sheets is dreamy…literally!

The wall of white frames got a little holiday hoohaa too.

I sprayed some old knobs I had a bright red, changed the background in the frame, added a darling little bird and tree. This is the first thing I see when I wake up so I want it to make me smile and start the day happy. I'm simple that way.

We're lucky enough to have a mantle that I like changing regularly. These windows are from our sun room. I saved all 18 of them and use them frequently.

I wrapped this grapevine wreath with a vintage measuring tape I found last summer in some junk shop in New Hampshire.

This little burlap bird that I bought at the Luckett's Holiday Market worked perfectly dangling in the center.

And my favorite piece I've bought all year…this awesome little gas stove that has been repurposed into a table with the addition of a glass top.

I had initially bought it to sell, but I fell in love with it and couldn't part with it.
I'll have it forever and ever!

Gotta love the Christmas color…turquoise!

We've had a bit of snow lately and I've sat here staring out at it covering the fields across the road. It's always nice to have the snow cover up all the flaws in my yard. I hope we get more for Christmas. Nothing like a white Christmas! Enjoy the last few days of the year and take time to stare out the window!

Spin, Knit, Eat

Yesterday was the monthly gathering of our knitting/spinning group but we spend as much time eating and commenting on the food as we do working with fiber.

Marsha hosted this time and I always love going to her comfy home. She's lived all over the world and has collected fanciful things from everywhere.

We lived in this house for three years when we first moved to Barnesville in 1980. It was a nice, cozy house but didn't look anything like it does now. It had dark wood paneling and bright orange shag carpet. When Marsha moved in, she did a lot of work to it.

She has an eclectic mix of art and artifacts.

We really do spin and knit and weave and work with fiber.
This is Lizou's Turkish drop spindle that she is spinning on.

Marsh is working on a rug on her loom.

Jeanne brought her cute little electric spinning wheel. She's spinning her mushroom dyed yarn, in various shades of cream to brown.

But the main event is the food. It's a vegetarian potluck, heavy on grains, veggies and deliciousness. All these ladies are awesome cooks and I thoroughly enjoy tasting all their dishes. We have a few Iranians in the group who bring amazing things. One woman brought a pickled relish that she had made from garlic she brought from Iran because it's not available here.

Christmas sandies, sweet potato pie and Belgian chocolate genache. THIS is why I can't seem to lose weight!

After lunch we sit around talking about other parts of the world, how we would all love to travel to Iran, but until the government changes, we are not allowed. Marsha has a nice trip planned though. She and her family of 5 are going on a river cruise on a small river in Germany. The main attraction is to see  the Holiday Market in Nuremburg. Luckies! That's on my bucket list.

Marsha's cat is always so darn cute.

awwwww

and here she is doing her best duck lips.

A nice time spent with friends, got a bit of knitting done and ate like a queen. I like the look of this 'down' time.
